Speed gates use retractable glass panels and IR sensors to manage entry in office lobbies, coworking spaces, and fitness clubs — they prioritise throughput and aesthetics. Tripod and full-height turnstiles are mechanical barriers better suited to industrial sites, stadiums, and unmanned perimeters where physical deterrence matters more than design. Choose based on three factors: security level, peak traffic, and the impression you want visitors to have.

Full-height turnstiles. They form a floor-to-ceiling rotating cage that prevents climbing or crawling. Models like the VZR GT-10 are rated for indoor and outdoor use, built from 304 stainless steel, and automatically allow free exit in a fire or power emergency. Our speed gates are rated at up to 30 people per minute per lane in normal operation. Actual throughput depends on the credential type: RFID tap is fastest, QR scan is slightly slower, and face recognition takes under one second per person. For peak-hour planning, count the number of people arriving in your busiest 15-minute window and divide by the per-lane rate.

Each lane's IR sensor array (up to 6 pairs on speed gate models) detects how many people enter per credential event. If a second person attempts to follow on the same tap or scan, the panels close or an alarm is triggered. This is standard behaviour in all our speed gates and can be tuned via the access controller software.

The same IR sensor array that enforces one-person-per-credential also detects tailgating — someone following closely behind an authorised user. When a second body is detected in the lane before the previous passage cycle completes, the panels close, and the system logs the event. Sensitivity is configurable per site via the controller.
